They sat in silence while Dawn was taken in to have her arm x-rayed. Buffy was reeling from what Willow had done, from what she herself had done with Spike and just how messed up her life had become. She glanced across at Spike who had refused to leave until he was sure Dawn was ok.
That just confused her even more. Spike really did care about Dawn. She knew why, although she tried not to think about it most of the time

When Spike moves to wrap his arm around her shoulders she lets him.
