Summary: Clark and Lex work out what they want.
Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] danceswithgary for the beta

It was impossible not to notice that Lex Luthor was hot.

The first time that they’d met, Clark had been in shock. Understandable when you’ve just discovered that you’re indestructible after being hit by a car going at sixty miles per hour. Even then, when Lex had woken up on the riverbank and stared at him in awe, Clark had felt something.

The second time they’d met, Clark had just about come in his pants as he watched Lex fence. There was just something about the way that Lex moved, that made Clark tingle all over. Lex was so smooth, almost predatory and Clark could only imagine what it would be like to be hunted down and devoured by him. Lex didn’t make things any easier by removing his fencing jacket so the he was only clad in a tight black t-shirt which clung to him in all the right places, and left little to the imagination.

Today, he found it almost impossible to keep his eyes off Lex. Thank god for the basket of apples in his hands because if he hadn’t been carrying them he may well have done something he’d later regret. Instead, he allowed his eyes to roam over Lex, taking in every inch of him. His top button was undone, giving Clark a glimpse of the pale throat that lay beneath the white cotton. Right now, he wanted nothing more than to kiss and nibble that delicate skin.

His eyes travelled further down, lingering for a moment on Lex’s crotch before shooting back up to his face, which was a picture of calm and serenity.

Lex’s face may not have betrayed anything but his body sure did. In those few fleeting seconds that Clark had looked, he’d seen that Lex was hard.

Clark pretended not to notice.

* * *

A farmer’s market was not the sort of place Lex would usually be found in, even if his plant provided most of the fertilizer in the area. He had people like Gabe to represent the company at these sorts of things, but ever since he’d met Clark Kent he’d found himself in all sorts of strange places in the hope of bumping into the young man who occupied too many of his thoughts these days. He’d lost count of the number of rather unpleasant cups of coffee he’d had at the Beanery while hoping Clark would pop in.

Pathetic was almost certainly the word to describe him, or it would be the word his father would use at least. Lex didn’t care. Ever since he’d woken up on the riverbank with Clark’s angelic face hovering above him, he’d known that there would never be anyone else as important as Clark Kent in his life.

Now, here he was at a farmer’s market, making a beeline for Clark as soon as he saw him. It was just unfortunate that Clark’s eyes were fixed firmly on Lana Lang.

The girl was pretty enough, there was no denying that, and Lex could see why Clark was attracted to her. But Lex could tell, just by looking at the way she hung off the quarterback’s arm, that there was very little to her below the surface. Clark was attracted to an image and Lex was sure that if Clark ever did manage to win Lana he wouldn’t be happy.

Lex could make Clark happy. They could do great things together, he was sure of it, and he’d make Clark see it too.

As he watched Lana, Lex became aware that Clark’s eyes were no longer on Lana, they were on him. All of him. Clark Kent was checking him out!

Be cool, Lex

Various clashes with his father had taught him the art of keeping his face neutral no matter what the situation and he had to use every ounce of that skill right then and now. God knows what the citizens of Smallville would think if Lex Luthor jumped an under-age schoolboy in broad daylight in the middle of a very public farmer’s market.

Thankfully, they were interrupted by the arrival of Clark’s father, which quickly killed any desire Lex had been feeling. Jonathan Kent would have no qualms about shooting Lex in the middle of the farmer’s market, he was sure about that, and there’s nothing like the threat of death for killing your libido.

Lex turned the charm up to ten and was rewarded with a handshake. Yes, he was now trying to win over a local farmer so he could court the man’s son. Pathetic was definitely the word.

Then Clark was gone and Lex was left alone. He took a bite of the apple Clark had given him, imagining for a moment that it was the firm flesh of Clark’s ass.

Clark had been checking him out and that meant Lex had a chance. When they were somewhere a little more private, he’d act on it.

* * *

Thankfully, for Lex, his private moment came sooner than expected, when Clark came to drop off some produce the following day and decided to stick around.

Lex had been considering for a while how to play this. Despite initial appearances, Clark was still very young and almost painfully innocent. Lex’s days of corrupting young boys were far behind him now and he had no desire to return there, especially where Clark Kent was concerned. Clark was something to be protected and Lex was going to be the one to do that, if Clark would let him. Lex wasn’t going to hide what he wanted. He doubted he’d be very good at it, even if he wanted to. But, the decision had to be Clark’s. Whatever happened, it was going to be on Clark’s terms.

“Hey, Lex,” Clark smiled as he entered the room. “I was just admiring your model.”

Lex eyed the model of Troy that Clark was referencing. He’d only kept it to remind himself of his lost youth, where gifts from his father were always educational. Play had never been encouraged and Lex had to keep secret the days he’d imagined the Trojan city was a medieval castle with princesses in need of rescuing and dragons in need of slaying. If his father had even suspected, he’d have beaten the romantic fantasies out of Lex and made sure such nonsense never happened again.

Lex envied Clark for having the childhood Lex had only imagined when he was tucked up safe in his bed at night, a normal, simple life with loving parents who allowed their child to play with toys.

At least now, Lex had a chance of that happiness he had always wanted. Just being in the same room as Clark made him smile, and smiling was something he did very little of.

“A strategy tool from my father,” Lex explained to Clark, gesturing at the model. “He felt that at the age of nine I should be well-versed in the art of war.”

“That’s a bit young for your father to be sending you into battle, isn’t it?” Clark asked with a frown.

“Oh, he’d have done it sooner if my mother had let him. She was pretty sick by the time my dad gave this to me.”

Lex felt Clark give his shoulder a gentle squeeze and for a moment, he thought he would melt under the touch. He felt his eyes drift closed as the warmth from Clark’s hand filled his whole body, driving out the cold that thoughts of his father always brought.

“Lex, are you ok?” There was concern in Clark’s voice and it was enough to bring Lex back to himself and make him pull away, despite his body’s protests.

“I’m fine, Clark, but I’m glad you stopped by. I have something for you that will help you win your cheerleader, if that’s what you want.”

He placed heavy emphasis on the last part of the sentence. He was beyond the realms of subtlety now. Clark had to know he was being given a choice here.

Clark sighed. “I don’t know what I want any more, Lex. I’ve been in love with Lana for so long but lately…I dunno, everything is just all messed up and confusing.”

Lex couldn’t help the smile twitching on his lips. “That’s what being a teenager is all about, I’m afraid.”

“Well, it sucks!”

“Yeah,” Lex agreed, “it does. But you don’t have to go through it alone Clark. You’ve got your parents, your friends and me. You’ll always have me.”

Not only had subtlety gone out the window, it was on a flight to Cancun now.

Clark smiled and Lex felt the warmth flood into him again. It was time to put the ball fully into Clark’s court.

He retrieved the box from where he’d placed it ready for Clark’s arrival, and handed it to his friend.

“Take this anyway. If you decide to use it to get Lana then it’s there, and if you don’t, well, keep it anyway. Call it a replacement for the truck.”

Clark looked at the box and frowned. “This is going to help me get Lana?”

“No, what’s inside the box is going to help you get Lana.”

Lex watched expectantly as Clark lifted this lid. He was waiting for Clark to look pleased or surprised, but instead Clark’s face began to turn an alarming shade of green and for a moment, Lex thought he was either going to puke, faint, or possibly both.

He moved forward and placed a steadying hand on Clark’s elbow as Clark closed the lid of the box.

“Clark, are you ok?”

Now that he was closer, Lex wondered if he’d overreacted. Clark didn’t look anywhere near as pale or sick as Lex has thought he did a moment ago.

Clark studied the box carefully, almost curiously. “What’s this box made out of, Lex?”

An odd question but Lex was starting to realise that Clark was different from anyone else he’d ever met before so he shrugged it off.

“It’s made of lead. A gift from my mother. Apparently, it’s made from the armour of Saint George, the patron saint of boy scouts. It just seemed appropriate that I give it to you, given the number of good deeds you seem to do.”

Clark gasped and shoved the box back at Lex. “Lex, I can’t take this, it's yours, your mother gave it to you.”

Lex stepped back, making no effort to take the box back from Clark. Why was it so damn difficult to give this boy a gift? Surely, his father couldn’t object to something so small. “It’s yours now. You don’t have to tell your parents I gave it to you if that’s what you’re worried about.”

Clark brought the box back and studied it closely. “It’s not that, Lex. It’s just why would you give me something that means so much to you?”

Crunch time.

“Because I care about you, Clark, and I want you to be happy.”

Lex wondered if he’d said too much. Clark had gone very quiet and it was starting to worry him.

Lex’s thoughts didn’t get much further than that because now Clark was kissing him.

* * *

Clark hadn’t gone to the mansion with the intention of kissing Lex. In fact, he hadn’t gone to the mansion with any intentions at all other than to apologise to Lex for the way his parents had treated him.

He was surprised at how quickly his life had gone from messed up and confusing to being perfectly clear on what he wanted, and it was all down to that small lead box which that he was currently holding. Nothing but a trinket to most people, to Lex it was everything, and he’d given it to Clark without a second thought.

Then, when Clark had opened the box and Lana’s necklace had caused him to get sick, it was suddenly as if a huge alarm bell had gone off inside his head. He didn’t want Lana. She was an ideal, an unobtainable beauty that he’d worshipped from afar for so long that he’d convinced himself that he was in love with her. She barely knew he existed, and this necklace, her most precious possession hadn’t been given to him, Whitney had attached it to him as part of his punishment. The fact that the stone could hurt him where nothing else could was less of a sign and more of a statement of the obvious. Being with Lana would not be good for him.

That was when he’d realised what he wanted, and that the object of his desire was standing right here in front of him. That was when Clark had decided to seize the moment and kiss Lex.

It was a chaste kiss to begin with. Just two pairs of lips brushing across each other. Lex must have been in shock because it seemed to take him a few seconds to realise what was happening. Then he started kissing Clark back and wow it felt good! Clark’s first real kiss, certainly his first with another guy, and suddenly it was as though whatever had been missing from his life in the past was suddenly in place. It didn’t matter how different and weird and alien he was because he had Lex.

Finally, after minutes of warring tongues and soft caresses they were forced to pull back for air. Clark could feel the goofy smile on his face but he didn’t care because Lex was smiling too.

“Well,” Lex finally said when he’d caught his breath. “That was…”

“Amazing?” Clark suggested.

“I was going to say unexpected but amazing works too.”

They both grinned.

“So, what happens now?”

Clark blushed and ducked his head. “I wouldn’t say no to more kissing.”

Lex smiled. “That’s fairly high on my agenda too, Clark, but we need to decide what to do.”

“About what?”

“Think about it for a moment. We’re in a small Kansas town where same sex relationships aren’t exactly encouraged.”

Clark raised his head and jutted out his chin. “I don’t care what people think, Lex. I just want to be with you.”

Lex smiled gently and brushed a hand over Clark’s cheek. “You might not care now but you might later. Narrow-minded people can be unbelievably cruel. Look at the quarterback stringing you up in the field for example.”

“Fine, we’ll keep it a secret then. Everyone knows about my feelings for Lana and they know that you and I are friends. They just won’t know what happens when I come to visit you.”

Lex kissed him gently. “Are you sure this is what you want, Clark?”

Clark kissed him back and smiled. “I’m sure. I’m good at keeping secrets anyway, and this way I get you all to myself.”

“Luthors don’t like to share.”

“That’s good to know. Now, you said something about more kissing.”

Lex smiled. “What did I do to deserve you, Clark?”

Clark kissed Lex softly on the forehead. He really couldn’t understand why Lex thought so little of himself.

“You saw who I am and you wanted me, just for myself.”

“And I don’t plan on stopping any time soon.”

“Me neither.”

* * *

Clark greeted Lex with a smile and a kiss the next evening.

“I gave the necklace back to Lana today.”

Lex handed Clark a bottle of water and took one for himself. “How did it go?”

“Ok. She asked me where I found the necklace and I told her I picked it up at school.”

“You could have dropped the quarterback in it with her.”

Clark sat down on the couch next to Lex and rested his head on his shoulder. “I don’t care about that any more, Lex. They’re welcome to each other.”

Lex pressed a kiss to the top of Clark’s head. “I know. Would have been revenge for what he did to you though.”

“I don’t care about that either. It’s over now. I have you and I’m happy.”

“I care,” Lex replied with a frown. “You could have died out there.”

Clark kissed him. “You were there to save me though. That reminds me, I have something for you.”

Lex watched, intrigued, as Clark reached into his bag and pulled out a familiar-looking box. Lex frowned. “Clark, I already told you the box was a gift. It’s yours now.”

“Just look inside, Lex.”

Lex opened the lid and smiled as he pulled out a small figure of a knight on a horse and a dragon.

“I thought you could put them with your model,” Clark said with a grin. “It’s Saint George. Since you gave me his armour I just wanted to show you there will always be someone here to protect you.”

Lex stared at the small model in his hands. He’d had to imagine heroic knights when he was a boy and now, years later, he had the real thing right here in his home. Clark might not have the armour and the horse, but he was a hero nonetheless and he’d saved Lex in more than one way.

Now, looking at this beautiful boy, Lex felt complete and safe for the first time in his life.

“Clark…I…this is the most thoughtful gift anyone has ever given me. I don’t know what to say.”

“You don’t have to say anything, Lex. I just wanted to make up for all those horrible years with your dad.”

Lex set the toys to one side and pulled Clark into his arms. “You’re doing that just by being here.”

“I just want you to be happy, Lex.”

“I am happy, Clark. I hope you are too.”

“I am. Now, why don’t we watch a movie and make out?”

Lex had to smile at Clark’s eagerness. He was young, and everything was new and exciting to him. Lex wouldn’t change that for the world, but he was also in no hurry to rush things and make Clark grow up sooner than he should. He pulled Clark closer to him, breathing in the clean and fresh scent of his hair.

“Maybe we could just stay like this for a while.”

He felt Clark smile rather than saw it.

“Sure, Lex, we can do that.”

The End

This was just what I needed. Cute, fun fic!

Laughed out loud : *Jonathan Kent would have no qualms about shooting Lex in the middle of the farmer’s market, he was sure about that, and there’s nothing like the threat of death for killing your libido.*

Melted:*Lex opened the lid and smiled as he pulled out a small figure of a knight on a horse and a dragon.

“I thought you could put them with your model,” Clark said with a grin. “It’s Saint George. Since you gave me his armour I just wanted to show you there will always be someone here to protect you.”*

The farmers' market scene was great too!

LOL So this is why you liked the end of my fic! I'm boggling that we wrote basically the same ideal of Lex. :P

Not only had subtlety gone out the window, it was on a flight to Cancun now. I loved that line. Can we go to Cancun too? The Muses would like that.

The boys are happy in our worlds and that's what matters. This is so sweet and it has so much more depth than the draft you sent me. Great work!

Everybody else has already quoted my favorite lines, but I wanted to tell you that I really enjoyed this. Clark is so young and so sweet here, and Lex is so torn between wanting him and wanting to protect him, that it all just makes me melt. Too bad you weren't the one to write the actual episodes; we'd have a much happier show!
