Clark Kent felt small as he looked at the bridge, with its gaping hole. The steel and concrete structure seemed to loom over him, casting a shadow that left him feeling cold.

He should be dead.

He could only stare as the last few minutes replayed themselves in his head, an infinite loop of terror. It consisted of the screaming sound of tires, devastated eyes staring at him through the windshield, his heart pounding in his chest as he desperately forced life back into the man who could have killed him.

It took a minute for his mind to register the gentle hand on his arm. Only then, did he force himself to look away and into the concerned eyes of the man that he had saved.

“Are you sure you’re okay?”

He could only nod, the words refusing to form on his lips.

“No, you’re in shock. I’m going to get help.”

As the man struggled to sit up, Clark returned to the present. He berated himself for losing focus; there would be time for freaking out later. “I’m okay. Just lay still. You hit your head. I’ll go and find someone.”

It didn’t take him long to flag down a car and ask for an ambulance. When he got back to the riverbank, he found the bald man sitting up, shivering.

“Help is coming,” Clark assured him as he sat down beside his fellow casualty. “You shouldn’t move though. I don’t know how badly you’re hurt.”

His eyes kept wandering to the cut on the other man’s face. Blood was trickling down his cheek now, and Clark wanted badly to wipe it away.

“I don’t think it’s serious,” the man replied. “I’m just glad to be alive right now, and I have you to thank for that. What's your name?”

“Clark Kent.”

“Lex Luthor.”

As Clark shook the hand offered to him, he was struck that it was a strange place and situation to be exchanging formal introductions. He couldn’t prevent a smile from breaking out and it felt good, especially when Lex smiled back at him. The icy cold inside him melted and he felt warm again.

Unfortunately, it didn’t have the same effect on Lex, who was still shivering.

Clark shuffled closer and wrapped an arm around his shoulders, drawing Lex close to him.

“Better?”

“Yes, which is a surprise considering you’re as wet as I am. I’m starting to think you’re a godsend, Clark Kent.”

“No,” he disagreed softly, “I’m just me.”

“Well, I’m glad we met, even in these circumstances.”

“Me, too.”

He could hear the wailing of sirens as the ambulance drew nearer. Soon it would be time to leave Lex and face what was happening to him. But for now, he was content to stay where he was.

For now, he could pretend to be a normal person who had made a new friend in unusual circumstances and ignore how right it felt to hold this man in his arms.

He didn’t want to let go.

I still need to find some Clex icons! :) And I have to upload the ones I took from the latest batch over on one of the SV comms of the boys separately.

Ahem. Okay. I think the reason for less comments is that a lot of people are stuck in airports right now trying to get to Grandma's house for Thanksgiving. ;)

I'm not sure how much I'll be on this holiday weekend, either. Hopefully a lot but time will tell. Maybe the f-list will stay quiet with so many on the road.

As for the missing scene, it's great! I like the concern on both boys' parts and how they formally introduced themselves to each other. :) Manners will out! ;)

This is an interesting challenge. Unfortunately I don't remember a lot of details or story titles (I didn't tape them to save and I don't have any DVDs of the show) so I doubt I'll be able to 'trib but I'm sure many, many people are going to give us good stuff like this! :) I was lucky to see the Pilot one year at Media*West Con. It was overlaid with Mystery Theater snarkiness and was hilarious. ;)

Hee!! That sounds fabulous.

Lex is polite if nothing else, especially to the man who just saved his life. LOL!!

Thanks! And don't worry about not being able to participate. It's just meant to be some fun :)
